Flat Lead Roof - Lead Rolled Roof
Lead is commonly used for flat roofs because of its long lifespan and ability to be formed to fit many positions. However, lead must be laid and formed correctly to achieve this long lifespan.

lead should be laid in bays (sections) with joints between the bays formed over a wooden roll - thicker lead is used on longer bays

joints along the length should be stepped to prevent rain seeping up through capillary action

lead is normally laid over a layer of building paper or geotextile membrane to allow it to slide over the sarking boards below as it moves with heat

sarking should be laid with a small gap between each board to allow ventilation of the underside of the lead

Vertical Step Lead Flashing
Lead stepped flashing.
Frequently used around chimney stacks, at abutments, or at interfaces with lower level roof areas that adjoin a further or higher elevation. Further, stepped flashings can be used vertically, a good example of this is where a lead clad wall meets a brick abutment.

Lead capping is where a sheet lead flashing is installed over a parapet to protect it so water does not penetrate through the building and cause damage to the parapet itself.

A lead clad dormer is usually designed to create space within a roof void. Often found to rear elevation roof slopes, a dormer can be an effective method of adding m2 to the overall floor area of your property.
